Choosing A Mask

The mask and the device are equally important to treatment. There is a variety of masks available and it is important to carefully select the appropriate type and size of mask. The mask you choose should feel comfortable and secure without being over-tightened, and must not cause marks to the face or allow leaks. Nasal masks are the most popular, with a wide selection of models available.

Nasal CPAP is considered the most effective for sleep apnoea. If you feel you must breathe through your mouth, a mouth mask or full face mask can be supplied. Should you find some air leaking from your mouth during therapy, it might be useful to add a chin strap – a simple strap which passes under the chin to help keep the mouth closed during the night. Air leaking from the mouth can cause noise and leave the mouth dry despite the use of a humidifier.
